Before playing the CD, it is instantly obvious that the band are NSBM, there is some great artwork full of symbolic imagery which gets this message across plainly. The band themselves state that they are inspired by War, Nationalism, Nature & Nordic Mythology which is communicated clearly through the music. Upon playing the album, there is an unmistakable Norwegian 1990s atmosphere although OPFER RASSENHASS are not generic. The first bands that actually come to mind are THUNDERKRAFT & CAPRICORNUS. The album begins with fast bassy Black Metal. The vocals are raw, sick, cavernous & reverberated. There is a little variation & in places we are treated to some mentally unbalanced screaming (think PEST (Deu)). As the album progresses, there are some interesting riffing techniques. The guitar being warmly distorted but still clearly heard. “Pour Le Futur De Notre Nature” features disconcerting disjointed riffs which are reminiscent of bands such as LUGUBRUM or WINTERBLUT. The riff which introduces the track is also very close to the first track of MORTE INCANDESCENTE “....your funeral”. So, it is apperant that OPFER RASSENHASS offer diverse NSBM with some killer atmosphere & suggests some varied influences. Towards the middle of the album the style is similar to bands such as NARGAROTH or SATANIC WARMASTER. The slower parts of “Guerres Opposees Aux Immigres” are reminiscent of stellar NARGAROTH epics; Germanic but also depressive. Later material on the disc is closer to RAC musically with fast punky chords & drumming which would not sound out of place on a NAPALM DEATH or DISCHARGE record! Plus we are treated to some great wintry tremelos & murderous vocals. Some of the chord arrangements actually bring to mind ILDJARN, particularly “Werewolve’s Elite Division” which is wickedly fast & repetitive. It has the primitive edge of ILDJARN, but yet demonstrates skilled musicianship. The torrent of fret abuse sees out the album with some dark, sombre moments thrown in. There are some pretty strange dual vocals on the final track which create an echoed effect. One vocal is raw, the other sung in a droning fashion. For NSBM, there are some fucked up effects & twisted riffs. The Pagan Front must be rubbing their hands with glee to have supporters such as OPFER RASSENHASS... Reviewed by: Wulfhild.
