Fleurety

Biography

Svein Egil Hatlevik and Alexander Nordgaren had barely had time to form FLEURETY in 1991 when they managed to offend the entire Norwegian clique. Apparently, their first demo, "Black Snow", had the inconvenient effect of piercing the listeners' eardrums with its unreasonably high-pitched vocals.

Having taken stock of the public reaction, FLEURETY decided to go ahead and pierce some more eardrums in 1994 with the "A Darker Shade of Evil" ep, which was essentially a re-run of the demo with an improved production.

ollowing year, FLEURETY, Misanthropy Records, and Aesthetic Death Records, entered a marriage of convenience, which bore the album "Min Tid Skal Komme". Much to FLEURETY's disappointment, this progeny met with critical acclaim, thanks to the avantgardistic nature of the music. A period of non-creativity ensured, which led to non-creation. Both Mr. Nordgaren and Mr Hatlevik occupied themselves with other projects: I LEFT THE PLANET and guitar duties on MAYHEM, and APHRODISIAC and DØDHEIMSGARD respectively.

In June 1996 and in the Autumn of 1997 FLEURETY recorded the tracks that appear in the mini-album "Last-Minute Lies". The first recording session included vocalist Ayna Johansen and saxophone player Mari Solberg, in addition to the regular crew, and resulted in a song called "Vortex". This song was perceived as so inedible that Misanthropy Records gave them the boot. Simultaneously, this song was perceived as so inedible that Supernal Music decided to sign them. The other two songs were recorded with the aid of vocalist Karianne Horn and again saxophone player Mari Solberg.

FLEURETY then entered Jester Studio (where ARCTURUS' "La Masquerade Infernale" was made) to record their second full-length album, "Department of Apocalyptic Affairs", assisted by a number of friends and acquaintances whose names will be familiar to most: Einar Sjursø of BEYOND DAWN, Carl Michael of VED BUENS ENDE / AURA NOIR, Maniac and Hellhammer of MAYHEM, Sverd of ARCTURUS, Garm of ULVER, Carl August Tideman of ARCTURUS / TRITONUS, and Knut of ULVER / ARCTURUS; plus vocalist Vilde of the dark Gothic/Electro act MAGENTA, the bass player of the Norwegian pop/rock act EPHEMERA, Karianne Horn and Mari Solberg (as on the current mini-cd), and two other singers. The year was 1998.
Upon its release, the uniquely-packaged "Department of Apocalyptic Affairs" was positively received by both fans and the press, and was one of the top 40 albums of 2000, according to Terrorizer magazine's readers' poll. With this album FLEURETY positioned itself firmly at the forefront of the new wave of the electro avantgarde post-Black Metal wave that has been coming from Norway in recent years.

Following a general restructuring of Supernal Music's band roster in 2000, FLEURETY is currently between deals.
