Deliverance CD, 2002 Deliverance CD, 2002 (Reference #82876832732)
Features Steven Wilson (PORCUPINE TREE) who provided backing vocals, guitar

and mellotrons & also the production. "Delieverance" is one of the heavier

OPETH releases. The album is still progressive, yet the quieter acoustic

passages are far less abundant on this release. The drumming is also more

powerful, making the release appear louder & heavier overall. Vocalist

Åkerfeldt also focuses more on his extreme Death Metal styled vocals, rather

than clean singing & also guitar technique. Therefore there are far more

solos & OPETH prove they can wipe the floor with many other bands where

ability is concerned. What "Deliverance" lacks in emotion, it makes up for

in energy & brute force. The darker, heavier companion to "Damnation".

Damnation CD, 2003 Damnation CD, 2003 (Reference #82876829112)
"Damnation" mainly focuses on those gentle acoustic passages that OPETH are

so recognisable for. This album combines a vintage 1970s progressive

approach with a crisp & flawless modern production. The majority of the

songs present are mid-tempo & feature clean & acoustic guitar tones

throughout. Åkerfeldt tends to sing cleanly & precisely as would be expected

with the general atmosphere of the album. The drumming is also toned down to

fit in with this sombre & subtle album. Steven Wilson of PORCUPINE TREE

features again, this time providing mellotrons & electric piano. The

Lighter, more sensitive counterpart to "Deliverance".

Blackwater Park CD, 2003 Blackwater Park CD, 2003 (Reference #82876829122)
"...Named after an obscure progressive rock band from the '70s, Blackwater

Park is the Swedish group's fifth full-length, overall. It is also actually

their first to see a domestic release in North America at the same time as

the rest of the world. Self-produced with help from Porcupine Tree

mastermind Steven Wilson, a modern prog/psych genius in his own right, the

record is yet another in a long line of brilliant records that masterfully

intertwine progressive and black metal influences into the best Swedish

death metal band to ever record..." (OPETH Official Site / Exclaim reviews -

Sean Palmerstone)
